The MCR distinguishes three types of membership: ordinary membership, associate membership, and guest membership.

Ordinary membership

Ordinary membership may be conferred upon graduate students; undergraduate students with senior status, or reading for a second degree; medical students in their fourth year and beyond. Persons eligible for Ordinary Membership will automatically become members of the MCR upon attaining eligibility, unless they elect not to become members. Students who exercise the right not to become members shall continue to have access to all services offered by the College to post-graduate students, including access to all MCR facilities owned and funded by the College.

Ordinary members are entitled to:

  1. vote, nominate and run for positions in MCR elections and vote at MCR General Meetings;
  2. use all MCR facilities and services; and
  3. attend all MCR events.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership in the MCR may be conferred upon: fourth year undergraduate students; the President of the Junior Common Room during their time at the University, the Vice-President and Social Secretary of the Junior Common Room during their terms of office. Persons eligible for Associate Membership will automatically become members of the MCR upon attaining eligibility, unless they elect not to become members.

Associate Members are entitled to:

  1. vote in the MCR NSE Representative, MCR Academic Representative and MCR Sports Representative elections and at MCR General Meetings;
  2. use all MCR facilities and services; and
  3. attend all MCR events.

Guest Membership

Guest Membership may be conferred upon persons who, in the opinion of the MCR, would benefit from MCR membership. Ordinary Members or Fellows may nominate a person for Guest Membership, who shall then be admitted to Guest Membership at the next MCR General Meeting in the absence of any objection to that person’s membership.

Guest Members are entitled to:

  1. use all MCR facilities and services; and
  2. attend all MCR events.
