NB: Normal meals are run from Week 1 to Week 9 of every term; Formal Halls are run from Week 1 to Week 8.
Formal Hall:
Formal Hall is an Oxford tradition of having a three-course dinner and wine with other members of the College and their guests. Teddy Hall runs a Formal Hall on Thursday and a Black Tie Formal Hall on Sunday. Each dinner is limited to 130 people.
Guests:
- Guest tickets cost £26.50.
- You can bring three guests to Thursday Formal Hall, and two to Sunday (Black Tie) Formal Hall.
- If you are sitting on High Table, the limit is one guest per student.
Booking Deadlines:
- Thursday Formal Hall: midday on the preceding Monday
- Sunday (Black Tie) Formal Hall: midday on the preceding Wednesday.
Sherry is served before dinner, and port after dinner, in the MCR on Thursdays and Sundays. You are invited to bring your dinner guests to the MCR before and after formal hall.
Dietary requirements should be specified during the booking. Dietary requirement cards can be taken upon entering the dining hall.
Exchange Formals:
Exchanges are paired formals in collaboration with another College’s MCR: you attend one (home) formal at Teddy, and then get to attend a(n away) formal at the other College.
- Gowns are worn for home (Teddy) formals only.
- Guest members can not sign up for exchange formals.
You are expected to attend both legs, but only book the home leg on EPOS: this automatically registers you for the away leg.
- This effectively pays for two meals.
- The cost for these two meals is £44.80 total (£22.40, or 4 meal tickets each) as they are a slightly more grand occasion.
- In comparison, a standard Teddy formal is 3 meal tickets (£16.80) each.
Home legs start at 6:45 in the MCR, with dinner starting at 7:25.
For away legs, timing varies depending on the event: you will receive an email if you sign up.
If you can no longer attend (and booking has closed):
- Selling your ticket is done informally.
- If you have bought a ticket this way, you take the place of that person, including their dietary requirements (at this point, the kitchen will only be able to accommodate the dietary requirements they have already been sent).
- You do not need to email anyone about it.
